Bosnia: 11 arrested in Sarajevo on suspicion of links with ISIL

Law enforcement agencies on Tuesday arrested 11 people in a wider Sarajevo area on suspicion of having planned terrorist activities and being connected with radical Islamist groups, the prosecutorial authorities in the Bosnian capital stated.

The arrestees have been reportedly in touch with radical groups, including people who were engaged in the wars in Syria and Iraq.

The police raided and searched two places of worship and several houses where the arrestees are staying.

The police and intelligence agencies conducted this operation in the suburb of Rajlovac where two months ago, two army soldiers were killed by a man, who was presumed to be close to the fundamentalist Islamists. The assassin later committed suicide.

The prosecutors have reported that during the raid evidence incriminating the arrested people was found.

Head of FBiH Police Dragan Lukac said that more than 100 policemen are involved.

The raids are carried out in several locations in the wider area of Sarajevo: in Boljakov Potok, Osijek, Sokolje and some other locations in the municipality of Novi Grad. Lukac said that the police operation is still underway. Police have said that more than 150 Bosnians have left to fight for Islamic state in Syria and Iraq over the past few years, of whom more than 50 have returned to Bosnia and close to 30 were killed in combat.

According to local media, 11 people have been arrested, suspected of criminal offenses related to terrorism.
