Bosnian Serb hosts fail to display Croatian flag during Reiner's visit

Croatian Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner's visit to Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday was marred by the failure of his hosts in the Serb entity parliament to display the Croatian flag, as is customary during official talks of officials from different states.

Reiner decided not to speak to the press after the talks in the Republika Srpska (RS) parliament after seeing that only the entity flag was displayed behind the speaker's stand. As he was leaving, he told reporters it was not customary for only the host's flag to be displayed on such occasions.

RS Parliament Deputy Speaker Zeljka Stojicic regretted the incident, saying it was a protocol oversight. The protocol service said its practice was not to display the flag of a visiting official's country.

Speaking of her talks with Reiner, Stojicic said they were constructive and that they addressed transport connections, the Bosanski Brod oil refinery, and the possible disposal of nuclear waste in the Trgovska Gora area in Croatia.

She said they also talked about the return of Croats to the Serb-controlled areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Bosnian Serb official claimed that "there isn't sufficient willingness" among them to return to the entity and that this was the case among all other refugees and displaced persons.
