A decision to grant the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) an associate membership of the European People's Party (EPP) has been postponed until November for political reasons, sources in the EPP told Hina on Tuesday.
At the proposal of the EPP Presidency, the voting at the EPP political assembly held on Tuesday, about the SNS's request for associate membership, has been postponed for November, the EPP told Hina.
The postponement was accepted without a debate. The EPP declined to speak about the nature of those "political reasons."
The European People's Party is the biggest political group in the European Parliament. It is an umbrella organisation bringing together European people's and Christian Democrat parties. The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) are also members.
The SNS is a conservative centre-right party. It has been in power in Serbia since 2012 and its chief is Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.
