Greek coastguard saves 13 migrants in dramatic rescue

The Greek coastguard rescued 13 migrants from a boat caught in a storm off the island of Lesbos on Sunday.

The rescue manoeuvre was "dramatic" due to the strong winds that had threatened to overturn the boat, a coastguard officer told dpa.

The migrant boat was about to capsize when a cargo ship saw the vessel and contacted the authorities.

The coastguard found the boat, but could not transport the passengers to the military ship due to the strong winds.

Instead, the coastguard accompanied the boat to a nearby beach.

Two passengers fell from the vessel during the manoeuvre, but they managed to hang on to a chain from the boat and make it to the coast safely.

All migrants from the boat were in good health on land.
