Montenegro opens 2 more chapters in EU entry talks

Montenegro opened two policy chapters in its European Union accession negotiations in Brussels on Thursday, whereby the number of opened chapters has risen to 24.

At an intergovernmental accession conference, Montenegro opened chapters 12  (Food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy) and 13 (Fisheries).

Two policy chapters have been provisionally closed. There are 35 chapters.

Montenegro applied for EU membership on 15 December 2008, receiving candidate status on 12 December 2010 and beginning negotiations on 29 June 2012.

Montenegro is one of three countries negotiating EU membership, alongside Serbia and Turkey, and has made the biggest progress in the negotiations so far.
