Serbia commemorates Serb victims of Operation Storm

Serbia is strong enough to provide for its people, it will never allow anyone again to commit the persecution such as the one during Operation Storm and it will never forget the suffering the Serb people had endured through the persecution and crimes, these are the messages from the central event held in Serbia on Thursday on the occasion of Remembrance Day when Serbia commemorates the persecution of Serbs during the Croatian military and police operation Storm.

The commemoration, held in Busije, outside Belgrade and attended by tens of thousands of people, was addressed by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vuviv, the president of the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Irinej, top Serbian State officials and the president of the Croatian Serb organisation -- the Serb National Council (SNV) -- Milorad Pupovac.

"I don't believe in collective guilt and I will never say that Croats are responsible for your suffering. They are not. Those who threw bombs and those who spat on you when you were forced to flee your homes are responsible. How many of them did that -- this is something Croats must count, for their own sake. Their future will depend on their readiness to do that," PM Vucic said.

A religious ceremony was led by Patriarch Irinej who said that instead of hate, Serbs and Croats must build peace, love and tolerance. He also said that "Europe's silence about the glorification of Ustashims in Croatia" raised a question if Serbia's wish to join the European Union was justified.
