Vucic, Nikolic to meet with Bosnian Serb leaders on Thursday

Serbia's President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will meet with Bosnian Serb leaders on Thursday to discuss a referendum on Republika Srpska Day which Bosnian Serb authorities plan to hold on September 25, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed after a meeting of the Serbian state leadership in Belgrade on Tuesday night.

Following a call by the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) to Bosnian Serb entity authorities to abandon their plan to hold the referendum, President Nikolic on Tuesday evening held urgent consultations with PM Vucic. After one-on-one talks between Nikolic and Vucic, the consultations were joined by Foreign Minister Dacic, Minister of the Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic and Justice Minister Nela Kuburovic.

"The meeting focused on security and regional stability. Measures are being taken to protect our national interests. Stability in our country will not be jeopardised and I hope it won't be jeopardised in the region either," Dacic told reporters after the meeting.

The Bosnian Serb leadership on Tuesday afternoon dismissed a call by the PIC Steering Board to abandon the plan for the referendum set for September 25.
