Croatia's Q1 new car sales up 12.6%

A total of 9,129 new vehicles were registered in Croatia in the first quarter of 2016, which was 12.6% more than at the same time in 2015, according to figures from the Promocija Plus agency.

Volkswagen had the largest share of the market, nearly 13%, with 1,159 vehicles sold, while in the first quarter of 2015 its market share was 15.46%, with 1,253 vehicles sold.

It was followed by Opel, with a market share of slightly above 10% and 934 vehicles sold. This company increased its market share from the previous year when it was 9.23% with 755 vehicles sold.

Among the most popular car brands, Skoda had a market share of 8.4%, with 768 vehicles sold. By comparison, in the first quarter of 2015 the company sold 819 vehicles, controlling 10.11% of the market.

With 609 vehicles sold, Ford increased its market share from 3.57% last year to 6.67%. In the first quarter of 2015, the company sold 289 vehicles on the Croatian market.

The best-selling model in the first quarter of 2016 was the Opel Astra, with 462 vehicles sold, 267 more than at the same time in 2015. It was followed by the Volkswagen Golf, with 450 units sold or 22 fewer than last year, and the Skoda Octavia, with 428 units sold or 38 more than in the first quarter of 2015.

In March alone, 4,119 new vehicles were sold, which was 19% more than in March 2015. The best-selling brand was Opel, with 577 vehicles sold and a market share of 14%. The best-selling model was the Opel Astra, with 331 units sold or 210 more than in March 2015.
