Economic sentiment in Croatia decreases slightly

Economic sentiment in Croatia decreased slightly in January, affected by deteriorated expectations, while at the European Union level it decreased markedly, a European Commission survey showed on Thursday.

The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in Croatia slid to 120.3 points in January 2016 from a record 120.9 points in December 2015, according to the survey.

A considerable drop in industry confidence in January was recorded only in Croatia, whose industry confidence indicator fell by 2.7 points from December to 3.8 points. The largest improvement in Croatia was recorded in consumer confidence, whose corresponding indicator increased by 2.1 points to -15.9 points.

Improvements, albeit modest, were also recorded in Croatia's services and retail sectors. The services confidence indicator increased by one point to 20.7 points, while the retail confidence indicator rose by 0.8 points from the previous month to 12.8 points. The construction confidence indicator stagnated at -13.2 points.

In January, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the EU decreased by 1.8 points to 106.7 points, while in the euro area it dropped by 1.7 points to 105 points.
