Exports in Jan up 3.4 pct, imports soar 10 pct

Croatia's commodities exports, expressed in kunas, in January increased by 3.4 % on the year, while imports rose by 10%, according to revised preliminary figures provided by the national statistical office (DZS) on Thursday.

The original preliminary figures, released last month, showed that imports dropped by 0.59% on the year and that exports grew at the rate of 2.8%.

The latest DZS figures showed that in January Croatia exported HRK 5.9 billion in commodities and imported HRK 9.7 billion, bringing the foreign trade deficit to HRK 3.9 billion or 21.9% more than the year before. 

The export-import ratio in January was 60.2%.

Expressed in euros, Croatian commodities exports in January amounted to EUR 767 million, up 3.6% on the year, while imports were up 10.3% at EUR 1.3 billion. The deficit was EUR 506.6 million or 22.3% more on the year.

In January, Croatia exported EUR 543.7 million worth of goods to other European Union member states, up 9.4% on the year.

Imports from other EU countries totalled EUR 1.04 billion, up 6.7% on the year.

Croatia's biggest foreign trade partner was Germany, with their trade amounting to EUR 296.9 million. Croatia's exports to Germany in January totalled EUR 102.6 million, or 6.4% more on the year, while imports from Germany soared 8.2% to EUR 194.2 million.
