Ikea to invest EUR 33 mln in construction of Designer Outlet Croatia

IKEA Centres, part of the Ikea Group's global shopping centre company, has launched a project valued 33 million euro for the construction of the first phase of a Designer Outlet Croatia complex which will be located next to the IKEA furniture store Rugvica, east of Zagreb.

Ikea reported on Tuesday that the the ROS Retail Outlet Shopping consulting company will manage the Design Outlet Centre together with IKEA Centres.

The first phase of the project envisages the construction of  90 stores within the 15,000-square-metre-large compounds, and once the complex is finished it should provide for 400 new jobs.

The investment is a joint project by IKEA Centres and the Mutschler Outlet Holding AG, based in Zurich which has already worked in partnership on the Designer Outlet Algarve. Mutschler Outlet Holding AG owns several outlet centres in Germany that are operated by ROS Retail Outlet Shopping.

Construction of the Designer Outlet Croatia compounds is expected to start in 2017 and stores are to open their doors in 2018.

Once the first phase is completed, the second phase of the project will be launched which will cover a further 25,000 square metres and an additional 60 designer stores.

The value of the entire project is estimated at 54 million euro.

The IKEA Group's investments in Croatia will rise to 188 million euro by those projects.
