Last year 35,715 passenger cars were sold in Croatia, which was 5.1 per cent more than in 2014, according to data released by the Promocija Plus agency on Tuesday.
A total of 2,108 vehicles were sold in December 2015 alone, which was an increase of 21.6 per cent compared with December 2014.
Volkswagen sold the largest number of vehicles in Croatia last year, 5,792, followed by Opel (3,668) and Skoda (3,072). Among luxury cars, Croatians bought 1,355 Audis, 987 BMWs, 896 Mercedeses, 41 Porches, eight Jaguars, five Teslas and four Maseratis.
The best selling car model was the VW Golf with 1,939 units sold in 2015. It was followed by the Opel Astra (1,548), the Renault Clio (1,528), the Skoda Octavia (1,399) and the VW Polo (1,374).
Volkswagen also sold the largest number of vehicles in December 2015 -- 406, which shows that Croatian clients were not deterred by the company's involvement in the emissions testing scandal. It was followed by Hyundai with 158 vehicles sold and Renault with 152.
The best selling car models in December 2015 were the VW Polo (147), the VW Passat (121) and the VW Golf (100).
