Toyota Motor said Wednesday that its global group sales fell 0.8 per cent from a year earlier to 10.15 million vehicles in 2015, but it took the crown as the world’s top carmaker for the fourth straight year, results showed.
The Japanese group’s sales figure surpassed those of German rival Volkswagen, which sold 9.93 million vehicles in 2015, down 2 per cent from the previous year.
The Toyota group, including Daihatsu Motor Co and Hino Motors Ltd, saw domestic sales fall 6.5 per cent to 2.17 million units amid sluggish spending, while sales outside Japan rose 0.9 per cent to 7.98 million, the carmaker said.
The Toyota group also said its global production declined 2 per cent from a year earlier to 10.08 million units in 2015.
