200 protest outside INA demanding protection of national interests

About 200 protesters rallied on Thursday outside the head office of the INA oil and gas company during the convention of the company's General Shareholders′ Assembly, demanding the protection of national interests and criticising Croatia's prosecutorial authorities for failing to investigate what the demonstrators labelled as as plunder and criminal offences.

"Croatia has been looted and humiliated, the list of (white-collar) scandals and criminal offences is being extended, while the Croatian people are living in poverty," said Vilibor Sincic, the leader of the Human Shield parliamentary party, that organised the protest rally.

INA has become a byword for injustice the corrupt governments have inflicted on the Croatian people, Sincic said.

Protesters carried banners with messages:"We mustn't allow the legalisation of the plunder!, or "Murderers of National Interests!"

The General Assembly, among other things, elected three new members of the INA Supervisory Board: Dario Cehic, Luka Burilovic and Damir Vandjelic.

During the protest, whistle-blower Vesna Balenovic criticised the selection, insisting that they had no experience in the oil business.
