30 Germans to study medicine in Split

Representatives of the School of Medicine at the University of Split and Regiomed Kliniken from the German federal state of Bavaria on Monday signed an agreement under which approximately 30 Bavarian students will enrol in the faculty in the southern Croatian coastal city and after obtaining their degrees, they will return as doctors to Germany.

"This agreement is part of a large-scale plan of German hospitals because they are faced with a shortage of physicians and they want their future doctors to attend good schools. We are honoured that we will be the ones to educate them. Those students will earn diplomas recognised in Germany and the rest of the European Union and they will be able to work as doctors at Regiomed Kliniken in Bavaria," the Medical School dean Zoran Djogas said.

The head of Regiomed Kliniken, Joachim Bovelet said his institution had recognised the value of the medical school in Split and decided to sign the cooperation agreement.

Deputy Tourism Minister Robert Pauletic said the tourism ministry was wholeheartedly supporting the cooperation agreement, adding that it was an important project which will help place Croatia on the European map.
