After 555 days disabled veterans to end their tent protest outside ministry

After 555 days, the war veterans' protest outside the Veterans' Affairs Ministry is ending, one of the protest organisers and president of an association of fully-disabled veterans, Djuro Glogoski, told a news conference on Tuesday.

Glogoski said that conditions had been met to end the protest, which started on 20 October 2014.

Senior ministry officials who were not doing their job are no longer in power and there are indications that together with veterans, the ministry will prepare a single law on the rights of Croatian veterans and their families, he said.

"The fight isn't ending here because one of the demands - a constitutional law on the rights of Croatian veterans - cannot be met as yet, however, in the years ahead of us we will do everything in our power for that to happen," Glogoski said.

Veterans are looking for their place in society that they deserve and for the Homeland War to finally be defined as a war of defence and liberation. We did not end the protest when the government changed because we wanted to show that we are fighting for the interests of veterans regardless of who is in power, he added.

The tent that stood in front of the ministry for 555 days will be relocated to the Homeland War Museum in Vukovar, the press conference was told.
