Agency owned by Karamarko's wife in business relationship also with Gavrilovic company

Apart from having worked for Josip Petrovic, advisor for the Hungarian oil company MOL, the marketing agency "Drimia", owned by Ana Karamarko, the wife of Croatian Democratic Union leader and First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko, has had a business relationship also with the Gavrilovic meat company, which has sued the Croatian state in a case worth HRK 1.5 billion, the media reported on Tuesday.

Djuro Gavrilovic, the owner of the meat company, has been under investigation by the anti-corruption office USKOK on suspicion of war profiteering.

The Nova TV news portal said Ana Karamarko had confirmed to it that her agency had been cooperating with the Gavrilovic company in matters related to marketing and public relations, which, she said, had nothing to do with Gavrilovic's other business operations.

In 2012 Djuro Gavrilovic launched arbitration proceedings against Croatia before the International Court for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), seeking protection of foreign investment and claiming that the Croatian state had caused financial harm to him by not allowing him to register ownership of land and other real estate he claims to have acquired  in the process of privatisation of the Gavrilovic Meat Industry.

The Croatian Parliament's Conflict of Interest Commission will decide on Wednesday whether or not to initiate proceedings against First Deputy PM Tomislav Karamarko for possible conflict of interest after information was leaked about the business relationship between Karamarko's wife and MOL advisor Josip Petrovic.
