Ambassador: Croatia wants to develop economic ties with Bolivia

Croatia wants to develop economic cooperation with Bolivia, a South American country with which Zagreb has no agreement signed, said Croatian Ambassador Nives Malenica during her recent visit to the Croat community in that Latin American country.

"When we manage to find our common interest, we will develop our economic cooperation," Malenica said adding that this would enable "institutional communication" through, for instance, communication between the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) and chambers of commerce in La Paz, Santa Cruz or Cochabamba.

"There are interesting projects in tourism, and we will also analyse opportunities in other areas," said Malenica, who is the Croatian resident Ambassador to Chile and non-resident ambassador to Bolivia.

In 2014, Croatia's exports to Bolivia came to HRK 479,184 and imports from that South American country came to HRK 250,851, according to the Croatian national statistical office.

Bolivia is one of the poorest countries in South America, however, it has large natural gas reserves. In 2014, its economic growth was 5.5%, according to World Bank statistics.

Ambassador Malenica visited the western city of Oruro at an invitation of a 5,000-strong ethnic Croat community. She described the reception by local Croats as "emotional and cordial".
