Ambassador proposes opening Croatian embassy in Mexico

Croatia's Ambassador to Washington, Josko Paro, has said during a visit to Mexico that he will ask Croatian authorities to open an embassy in that Latin American country because covering it from the USA hampers closer cooperation and a more careful following of events in that country.

"Croatia should not be represented from Washington. If we want to cooperate, there should not be any distance between us," Paro said at a meeting in Mexico City, as reported by the local media.

The Croatian diplomat met with deputies in the Mexican parliament, which has a Mexican-Croatian friendship group.

The chair of that group, Jorge Ramirez Marin, said that he expected relations between the two countries to deepen.

Paro said that covering Mexico, a big and complex country, from Washington did not contribute much to the two countries getting to know each other better. He said that he would propose opening a Croatian embassy in Mexico City.
