Berlin hopes for better investment climate in Croatia

Ahead of Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic’s visit to Germany, the president of the German-Croatian Parliamentary Friendship Group, Astrid Freudenstein of the Christian Social Union (CSU), expressed hope that despite the lengthy process of forming the new Croatian government, Croatia would soon implement reforms which would improve the investment climate in the country.

Investment climate in Croatia could be better and Germany is very much interested in seeing that happen, Freudenstein told Hina.

She stressed that Germany had closely followed the process of forming the new Croatian government.

There was a certain standstill in our relations, but we hope for a stable political situation in the country and reliable Croatian partners, Freudenstein stressed.

We also hope that despite numerous difficulties in the process of forming the new government, the realisation of its reform programme is possible, Freudenstein added.

She underscored that Germany and Croatia always had excellent relations and that after Croatia joined the European Union those relations got even better.

Last summer Germany lifted all restrictions for Croatian citizens on its labour market. Now we can truly speak of relations between two European partners on the same level, the CSU official said.

Commenting on the current refugee crisis, Freudenstein said positions must be harmonised on the European level.

This does not refer only to Croatian-German relations but to Europe in general so that we can overcome the refugee crisis. And this can happen only in cooperation with Croatia which has the same interests, Freudenstein said.

Croatian Prime Minister Oreskovic is scheduled to travel on Tuesday to Germany where he is expected to hold talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
