Branko Hrg no longer HSS leader, Beljak and Matic to compete in second round

Branko Hrg, leader of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), which is a member of the ruling Patriotic Coalition, on Saturday failed to pass the first round of elections for the party's new leader, while his rivals Kreso Beljak and Nenad Matic won enough votes for the second election round.

A total of 755 HSS delegates voted at today's electoral convention and three ballots were invalid. Of the remaining 752 votes, 339 were for Beljak and 188 for Matic.

Hrg had been elected HSS leader in 2012.

Earlier today, Hrg failed to get sufficient support of party delegates for his report on his leadership of the party in the past four years.
