Bridge chief says talks with HDZ more constructive than before

The Bridge party leader Bozo Petrov said on Wednesday that the ongoing negotiations between his party and the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the relative winner of the 11 September early elections, on Croatia's new government were more positive and constructive than the talks between the two parties after the 8 November 2015 elections.

"We will continue the talks and I hope that everything will be hammered out within a week or two weeks," Petrov told reporters on arriving at the government's main offices for a meeting of the outgoing cabinet.

The first round of the HDZ-Bridge talks on forming the new government were held on Tuesday afternoon, and both Petrov and HDZ leader Andrej Plenkovic said late last night that they were satisfied with the atmosphere of the negotiations.

Petrov said today that expert teams of the two sides were now busy formulating their respective positions on the future government's agenda.

HDZ Secretary-General Gordan Jandrokovic said today that the HDZ would insist that the new Prime Minister would be Plenkovic.
