Bridge: It seems HDZ ready to uphold our proposals

The spokesman for the Bridge party, Nikola Grmoja, on Monday said that Bridge was waiting for an official response from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to its demands for a tripartite government and a non-partisan prime minister, adding that from what he had heard from HDZ's leader earlier in the day, it seemed as though the HDZ would support both proposals.

"Bridge is waiting for an official response from the HDZ, which should come tonight, and from what the leader of that party, Tomislav Karamarko, said today, it's obvious to us that they are ready for both proposals," Grmoja told Hina.

He called on the Social Democratic Party (SDP), after the party rejected the proposals and Bridge extended the deadline for the final response until Tuesday, to once again consider the proposals and change their mind.

He underscored that if the HDZ accepts both proposals and the SDP rejects them, Bridge would be willing to continue its negotiations with the HDZ to form a reformist government with a non-partisan prime minister and some non-partisan ministers, with clear deadlines to conduct reforms and to evaluate the situation in a year's time.

"If the SDP rejects us, we are still willing to cooperate with them in parliament and support their proposals if we agree with them. We won't support the HDZ on issues we disagree on," he said.

Asked about a prime minister-designate, Grmoja said that this is something that is yet to be agreed. "We cannot comment on that for now until we get responses to our demands. The official statement from the HDZ has to clearly state that they are ready to cooperate with the leftist coalition and that they are for a non-partisan prime minister," he reiterated.

Grmoja told Hina that the holding of a meeting of Bridge's National Council scheduled for Tuesday depended on the responses they were expecting.
