Bridge MP: HDZ made use of Oreskovic to come to power

The whip of the Bridge party club, Miroslav Simic, said on Thursday that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) made use of (non-partisan technocrat candidate) Tihomir Oreskovic to come to power by proposing him for premier and hoping at the same time that he and the Bridge party would not be able to see through the HDZ's political games.

"When it turned out that this would not be as they planned, they are toppling you and this cabinet, as they would like to have the entire power, without pebbles in their shoes," Simic said in the parliament during a debate on the HDZ-sponsored motion for a no-vote confidence in PM Oreskovic.

Those who are now using "extremely unfair methods" to impeach you were those who invited you to this position only to enable them to come to power. (HDZ chief) Tomislav Karamarko was not acceptable either to us (Bridge) or to the Croatian public for the premiership. The HDZ was not a winner of the (November 2015) parliamentary elections, nor were other parties. We sought solutions in order to make it impossible for them (HDZ)  to be awarded the (premier's) position, which they had not deserved," Simic said, recalling the course of negotiations after the inconclusive parliamentary vote until the establishment of the government in the eighth parliament in late January 2016.

Simic said that 12 Bridge lawmakers would not participate in attempts to seek a new majority in this parliament .

HDZ parliamentarian Domagoj Milosevic accused Oreskovic of a lack of cooperation with the HDZ and of failing to address vital political issues.

He said that Oreskovic, whom the HDZ had proposed for the premiership, was not familiar to a sufficient extent with the Croatian parliamentarian political system.

The club of deputies of the party led by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic said they would vote for Oreskovic's impeachment. This club said that a snap election should not be the next step, thus expressing its position that they were in favour of a government reshuffle.
