Bridge: PM-Designate to be known by Tuesday or there'll be early election

The nominee for the Prime Minister-designate will be known on Tuesday, or Croatia will have a new election, said Bozo Petrov, the leader of the Bridge party that emerged third in the November 8 parliamentary election, which has resulted in a hung parliament.

"Tomorrow at noon, we will have a meeting with the first bloc that acceded (to a new round of talks). The second bloc can join us, if it wants," Petrov said on Thursday, referring to the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and its Patriotic Coalition that won 59 seats, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its Croatia is Growing coalition, which secured 56 seats in the 151-seat eighth legislature.

Bridge won 19 seats, and in the meantime this was reduced to 15 seats, with four elected deputies having left the kingmaker party.

Petrov said today in his hometown Metkovic that apart from the meeting at noon, another meeting would be scheduled for 1900 hrs Friday on nominations for PM-Designate. The venue of those sessions is Zagreb.

According to Petrov, the talks would last until Sunday.

Petrov criticised all who, as he said, had been "slapping" his party, noting that Bridge would not allow any procrastination in the negotiations on a future cabinet.
