The Bridge party on Monday asked Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner to call a new regular session of the national parliament which would last until July 15, when a decision on its dissolution takes effect.
Bridge said the reason for its request was the fact that aside from amendments to the Act on the Financing of Political Activities and Electioneering, "which reduce funding for political parties", the parliament should discuss about 50 other items.
"Also, not convening the parliament prevents its members from doing their job for which they were elected by citizens and for which they are paid very well," the party said.
It goes on to say that last week's statements "hint at the HDZ's plan for the parliament not to continue its session until a new parliament is elected", which it says "the SDP and (its leader) Zoran Milanovic have evidently agreed with, (with Milanovic) saying that until July 15 the parliament will not be doing anything, just as it has not been doing anything until now."
"If the parliament's work were to be judged only by the work of Mr Milanovic as an MP, it would really amount to nothing. Fortunately, that is not so because in this parliament there are MPs who do their job responsibly and who want to continue doing it until July 15 when the decision on the parliament's dissolution takes effect," the party says.
It notes that it has received an answer from Parliament Speaker Reiner to its request, in which he says that he will reconvene the parliament for the continuation of its third session "if necessary, respecting the need for the adoption of decisions related to issues of national interest and unobstructed functioning of the state authorities."
"Given such as an unclear answer, we call on Speaker Reiner to make sure the Sabor continues its session this week and remains in session until July 15 because we believe that there are very justified reasons for that," says the party.
Under amendments to the Act on the Financing of Political Activities and Electioneering, the amount of funding which political parties obtain from the state budget for their activities would be determined on the basis of budgetary tax revenues and not budget expenditure and would amount to a maximum HRK 48 million annually.
