Commission to give preliminary results at 22 hrs on election day

The possibility of preferential voting and some procedures in establishing the outcome of elections are the reasons why the State Election Commission (DIP) will publish preliminary results of the country's parliamentary vote on 8 November around 22 hours, which is later than usual since DIP previously provided preliminary data within an hour after the closing of polling stations.

DIP member Janja Horvat Drobnjak told Hina recently that the fact that voters would be able to rank preference ballots, which were used for the first time in May 2014 for the election of Croatian deputies to the European Parliament, would make the entire process of establishing the results longer.

DIP also issued an instruction under which the number of voters per polling station should be a maximum 1,500. Therefore there will be more polling stations than in the last presidential election so as to lower the number of voters per polling committee and thus make it easier for those committees to count the ballots in a reasonable period.
