Croatia condemns Brussels blasts

Croatia condemns this morning's attacks in Brussels in the strongest terms and feels solidarity with Belgium and its citizens, Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic said on Tuesday in a note of condolence to his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel.

"The Croatian government condemns in the strongest terms these attacks on the basic values of civilised society whose only goal is death, spreading of fear and senseless destruction. We deeply regret the loss of human lives and extend sincere condolences to all those who lost their dearest," Oreskovic said.

He wished those injured in the blasts a quick recovery and expressed Croatia's solidarity with all the residents of the European capital and all of Belgium.

The explosions at Brussels airport and subway have claimed 26 lives.

The staff at the office of the Permanent Representation of Croatia, based in Avenue des Arts in the vicinity of the Maelbeek Metro Station, are safe, and Croatian Ambassador Mato Skrabalo informed PM Oreskovic on the telephone about the latest developments.

"He confirmed that all our personnel are safe," Oreskovic said after talking to Skrabalo.
