Croatia gov't includes two tourism projects among strategic investment projects

At its meeting on Wednesday, the caretaker government included the construction of a Punta Nova campsite on Pag island and the reconstruction of the Hotel Park in Rovinj among its strategic investment projects.

The value of the Punta Nova campsite project is HRK 139.3 million and the investor is the Nova Camping company. The five-star campsite will have 500 camping lots, four toilet and shower blocks and 250 mobile homes with a total accommodation capacity of 2,200 people, Economy Minister Tomislav Panenic said.

The value of the Hotel Park project is HRK 539 million and the investor is the Maistra hotel company. The existing three-star hotel will be upgraded to a five-star facility with 209 rooms and about 500 beds, and an outdoor swimming pool.

Panenic said that task forces had been set up for both projects to help the investors in removing the remaining obstacles to the implementation of the projects.

Tourism Minister Anton Kliman said that the two projects would provide a fresh boost to the tourism industry by raising the quality of service and the competitiveness of the national economy as a whole.

Kliman said that the reconstruction of the Hotel Park would start by the end of this year and would be one of the biggest investments in tourism next year.
