Croatian activists to join in March Against Monsanto in May

A newly-established and non-parliamentary party called "Free Croatia" on Monday announced participation of Croatian activists in the March Against Monsanto, set for 21 May, and in Croatia rallies would be held in Zagreb and Osijek on that day.

Party representative Damir Kristijan Rogina told a news conference that Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)  between the European Union and the United States would open the door to the arrival of GMOs in the European Union.

"Croatian agricultural producers would lose their independence due to the aggressive proliferation of GMO seeds, Rogina said.

He expects several thousand protests at the rallies in Osijek and Zagreb.

The initial march against against Monsanto corporation, a producer of genetically modified organism (GMOs) took place on May 25, 2013, with demonstrations taking place around the world.

"Free Croatia" representatives urge the Croatian authorities to keep Croatia free of GMOs.
