Croatian and Slovenian presidents meet to discuss migrant crisis

Slovenia's President Borut Pahor and his Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Sunday held an informal and unannounced meeting in the Slovenian town of Otocec to discuss cooperation of countries along the Balkan route for west Europe-bound migrants and on that occasion they agreed that Croatia would host the next Austrian-Croatian-Slovenian summit meeting.

This informal meeting of the Slovenian and Croatian heads of state was arranged in line with agreement after the successfully organised summit meeting within the Brdo-Brijuni Process in Zagreb in November 2015, according to a press release issued by the office of President Grabar-Kitarovic.

Slovenian media outlets reported that the Otocec meeting had been triggered off by tightened border controls for the arrival of refugees in some European Union member-states.

According to a statement from Pahor's office, the two presidents advocated close and friendly relations and also cooperation among the countries along the Balkan migrant route.

Relatedly, the two presidents agreed that the next trilateral meeting of Austria, Croatia and Slovenia should be organised as soon as possible in Croatia.

The previous trilateral summit meeting took place in Slovenia a year ago.
