Croatian exports up 2.8%, imports up 2.13% in first 8 months of 2016

Croatian commodity exports in the first eight months of 2016 increased 2.8% from the corresponding period of 2015 while imports grew 2.13%, show preliminary figures released by the national statistical office (DZS) on Monday.

From January to August 2016, Croatia exported close to HRK 57.8 billion worth of commodities, 2.8% more than in the first eight months of 2015.

At the same time, the value of imports exceeded HRK 94.8 billion, up 2.13% from the same period of last year.

The trade deficit was HRK 37.05 billion, up 1.12% from the same period of last year. The export-import ratio rose by 0.4 percentage points, from 60.5% at the end of August 2015 to 60.9%.

Croatia's commodity exports to other EU countries in the first eight months grew 2.6% to HRK 38.8 billion, while imports from other EU countries grew 2.66% to HRK 74.2 billion.

Croatia exported slightly less than HRK 19 billion worth of goods to non-EU countries, up 3.2% from the first eight months of last year, and it imported from those countries HRK 20.6 billion worth of commodities, an increase of 0.3%.
