Croatian MEPs in Brussels alive and well

Croatia's Members of the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday reported via social networks that they were safe and well after three explosions hit the European Union capital.

MEP Ivana Maletic reported that Croatian MEPs and their assistants were all well.

All of Croatia's MEPs, with the exception of Davor Stier, commented on their social networks. Tonino Picula, Ivan Jakovcic, Marijana Petir and Davor Skrlec wrote messages on their Twitter accounts. Biljana Borzan said that she and her team are well and looking for a way to return to Croatia. Jozo Rados too said that he and his assistants were well. Ruza Tomasic sent her condolences to the families of the victims.

Andrej Plenkovc condemned the attacks in Brussels. "I most strongly condemn the terrorist attacks that occurred a the Zaventem airport in Brussels this morning and in the city metro. I express my condolences to the families of the victims and the Belgium authorities. The European Parliament continued with its work during the morning with tighter security measures," Plenkovic wrote on his Facebook profile.

Dubravka Suica also wrote on her profile, "We Croats, I mean all of us, assistants, trainees, MEPs and others, had already arrived in the parliament and were very shaken and all committee meetings were started with a moment's silence in honour of the victims of this morning's explosions at Zaventem," she wrote.

Several explosions with 28 dead and many wounded brought Brussels to a standstill. Authorities have asked residents to remain indoors and all flights to Brussels have been canceled or re-routed.
