Croatian Parliament Defence Committee endorses purchase of used US Army helicopters

The Croatian Parliament's Defence Committee on Wednesday endorsed a plan for the procurement of 16 used helicopters offered by the United States for the Croatian armed forces.

The OH-58D Kiowa helicopters have been chosen by a team of Croatian military experts headed by Colonel Michael Krizanec. They haven't been flown much.

The outgoing Chief of Staff Drago Lovric said that this project is of strategic importance because these are light reconnaissance combat helicopters with extraordinary capabilities that can also be used in search-and-rescue and border protection operations.

From a financial point of view, Croatia will receive a value of HRK 1.7 billion by investing HRK 200 million, Krizanec said.

All 16 selected helicopters were manufactured between 2010 and 2012 and have between 100 and 600 flying hours. They have all the standard equipment and weapons that come with the latest OH-58D Kiowa Warrior version in accordance with US Army rules and standards.
