Croatian parliament speaker, U.S. Senator meet in Zagreb

Croatian Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner and U.S. Senator Robert Corker on Sunday held talks on relations between their countries which they described as friendly and partner-like.

"Our cooperation in the sector of defence is very good, and Croatia is very interested in being covered by the U.S. Visa Waiver Programme and also in double tax avoidance," Reiner said at the talks, according to a statement issued by the parliament after his talks with Corker, who chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

The talks also revolved around the strengthening of the economic cooperation and possible U.S. investments, primarily in the energy sector, and around the situation in southeast Europe.

Corker was quoted as saying that Croatia could serve as an example to other countries and was a factor of stability in the region.
