Croatian PM appeals for promoting tolerance in public discourse

Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic has appealed for more tolerance in public discourse which, he assesses, is getting sharper, and this appeal was published on Oreskovic's Facebook account on Monday.

In his message titled "Public Dialogue Must Be Tolerant", Oreskovic writes that pluralism is the foundation of democracy and implies diversity of opinion and dialogue.

"Unfortunately, dialogue in Croatian public space is getting sharper, with less and less tolerance," the head of government notes.

"We must not forget our past, but better future must be our goal."

Many people stop me in the street to talk about existential matters and about the future, he said adding that, unfortunately, that public mood does not reflect in public communication and in the media.

"I expect all stakeholders in public communication to have tolerance towards their interlocutors as well as facts and truth as the starting point for debates," Oreskovic writes.
