Croatian president meets with British business secretary

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic met with British Business Secretary Greg Clark in London on Wednesday to discuss ways of strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

Grabar-Kitarovic was on a two-day official visit to the United Kingdom, and the meeting was a continuation of her talks with Prime Minister Theresa May, held on Tuesday, on the need to boost economic ties between Croatia and the UK.

The Croatian president later met with representatives of Croatian startup companies and British investors in the Bloomberg offices. The meeting included Croatian businessman Hrvoje Prpic, the owner of the London-based Trillenium company and one of the initiators of the Croatian Business Angels Network.

Asked by the press why Croatian startups were interesting to British investors, Prpic said that that was because they were cheaper than those in the West. "I think that all people in the startup industry know that Croatia is just a first step. The next step is Europe and then the Silicon Valley," he said.

Prpic announced that the European Business Angels Network would hold an annual meeting in Zagreb in late November and that among those attending would be Bruce Dickinson, singer for the British rock band Iron Maiden.
