Croatian president meets with Slovenian PM

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar discussed in Ljubljana on Friday outstanding issues in relations between the two countries, with Grabar-Kitarovic telling reporters afterwards that the cooperation between the two EU members was especially important now that disintegration processes in Europe had become evident after Britain's decision to leave the EU.

Grabar-Kitarovic said the talks were friendly just as were relations between the two countries.

"We also discussed outstanding issues and ways of dealing with them, and we agreed that they must not mar our friendship," she told reporters on the second day of her visit to Slovenia.

Commenting on the outcome of the Brexit referendum, Grabar-Kitarovic said the cooperation between the two neighbouring EU members was necessary, "especially now that disintegration trends in Europe have become evident."

"It is up to us all to be responsible members that will deal with outstanding issues and work on strengthening the European project," she said, noting that Britain's surprising decision was nonetheless disappointing for all other member-countries.
