Croatian Prime Minister says will pay catering bill for his family

Caretaker Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic said on Monday that he did not know about the costs of HRK 100,000 for catering services in the Villa Costabella in Opatija, stressing he was confident this amount was not spent on catering, and adding that he would settle those costs.

Oreskovic visited the HS Produkt factory in Karlovac on Monday and was perturbed by reporters whose "main question" was about the costs his family had incurred and not "a brilliant story like that of the HS Produkt." He expressed hope "Croatia would soon be dealing with more important matters than the prime minister's summer vacation."

"I find out more through the media about my vacation. I haven't seen the bill yet. I don't know about HRK 100,000. I am 100 per cent certain that my two children and wife and I when I was there for a few days over the weekend, didn't spend that much. As a protected person, I have security and perhaps the cost of that has been included, even though I don't know because I haven't seen the invoice. When I see the invoice I will cover the costs for my family," he said.

According to the Jutarnji List daily, the Oreskovic family arrived in Villa Costabella in Opatija on Monday June 13 and left on July 10 and that the costs of catering during that time allegedly amounted to HRK 85,113. The family also stayed in the villa during Easter for four days and according to unofficial information, the family then spent HRK 15,000 on catering.

The daily also notes that during the Zoran Milanovic government HRK 295,000 was spent on catering in 2015.

Asked about his future involvement in politics, Oreskovic said that he had helped Croatia during the time of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) government through investments and that after the experience gained in politics he would continue to help Croatia which has huge potential and a lot of room for changes and different approach to work.

After touring the HS Produkt factory, Oreskovic said that he would use his contacts so that Croatia's assault rifle is selected at an international tender advertised by the French army.
