Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) dismisses First Deputy PM's accusations

Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) programmes director Sasa Runjic on Saturday dismissed claims by First Deputy Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Tomislav Karamarko that the HRT was in the service of one political party and served to destroy the political cooperation between the HDZ and Bridge.

The HRT leadership believes that any unfounded attack on the HRT is a direct attack on democracy, it was said in the prime time news broadcast on Saturday evening.

"Mr Karamarko's claims are unfounded, incorrect and generalised. I dismiss them," said Runjic.

"If Mr Karamarko or anyone else has any complaints regarding the work of the HRT as a public independent media outlet, there is a very precise procedure to establish if those complaints are founded," said Runjic.

During a visit to Cilipi earlier in the day, Karamarko told reporters that he supported the statement by Bridge member Ivan Kovacic that HRT director Goran Radman should step down due to numerous scandals.

"I am not satisfied with that public service which we all pay. That television is in the service of one party and serves to destroy the political cooperation between Bridge and the HDZ. Mr Radman should leave and that structure should start behaving professionally and objectively," he said.
