Croatian, Slovenian trade union federations sign statement on refugees

The leaders of the Croatian trade union federation SSSH and the Slovenian trade union federation ZSSS, Mladen Novosel and Dusan Semolic respectively,  on Tuesday signed a joint statement on refugees, entitled "Human and Workers Rights for Everyone", calling for solidarity with and respect for refugees.

The document was signed at the Croatia-Slovenia border crossing Obrezje ahead of International Labour Day.

The SSSH and the ZSSS said unions were most competent to directly communicate with their members and the public and prevent anti-migrant rhetoric and fear of refugees with correct information and messages of peace.

The two federations will cooperate with the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) to define European and global union strategies which would include a dignified treatment of refugees.
