Croatian-Ukrainian economic forum held in Split

A Croatian-Ukrainian economic forum was held in Split on Friday, bringing together about 40 Ukrainian and Croatian companies, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) said in a press release.

The forum was organised by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ukrainian Embassy in Croatia. It was attended by companies engaged in metal processing, construction, the manufacture of cooling machines, agriculture, trade, tourism, and consulting services.

"Today's forum is the continuation of our joint activities with our Ukrainian partners with the aim of connecting the economies of Croatia and Ukraine," HGK vice-president for construction, transport and communications Mirjana Cagalj said.

She said that the HGK had initiated the establishment of the Business Council for Economic Cooperation with Ukraine, whose main purpose is to exchange information and coordinate activities to help Croatian companies in establishing their presence on the Ukrainian market.

Croatian member of the European Parliament Andrej Plenkovic, speaking in his capacity as head of the European Parliament Delegation to Ukraine, emphasised the sensitive situation in Ukraine and the humanitarian efforts and assistance provided by Croatia. He said that the two countries' chambers of commerce represented a lever in the further development of their economic relations.

According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, trade between Croatia and Ukraine totalled USD 45.8 million in 2015, which was 55% less than in 2014. Croatian exports amounted to USD 13.5 million and imports from Ukraine totalled USD 32.3 million.
