Croats in DP survey vessel crew help find EgyptAir plane 'black box'

The flight recorder from the EgyptAir plane that went missing over the Mediterranean on 19 May was recovered from the sea on Thursday, and the Croatian crew of the John Lethbridge, a DP survey vessel, participated in finding the "black box".

The cockpit voice recorder from the EgyptAir plane was damaged, but "its memory unit was intact", Egyptian investigators reported on Thursday.

The plane, flying from Paris to Cairo, crashed on 19 May, killing all 66 people on board.

The  search vessel with an underwater robot was engaged in efforts to find the flight recorder.

John Lethbridge captain Ratko Marceta told Hina that they had lowered the robot 2,970 metres deep into the sea and found a part of the recorder.

A segment of the box with the voice recorder was found 200 metres from the flight recorder, according to Marceta.

The crew of the John Lethbridge consists mainly of Croat sailors.

The vessel is still looking for the other flight recorder.

The area in which flight MS804 disappeared is one of the deepest in the Mediterranean - more than 3,000 m (10,000ft) deep in some parts.
