Defence ministry signs HRK 200 mln deal with domestic companies

Defence Ministry and representatives of 27 Croatian companies on Monday signed a HRK 200 million contract on the procurement of military equipment.

The contract regulates the procurement of clothes, footwear, arms, food and security equipment which, according to Defence Minister Josip Buljevic, will give a significant incentive to the national economy.

The minister said that the military industry was strategically important for every country, adding that signing the contract represented the continuation of the 7-year-long cooperation with some of those 27 companies, mostly to the mutual satisfaction.

"The Defence Ministry is buying Croatian products, not only because they are our products, but because they are quality products and we will tell the world about it," Buljevic said, adding that the deal regulates the procurement of 300,000 products to be manufactured by approximately 5,000 workers.

This way, the ministry and the Armed Forces are showing that we are not only consumers, but also generators of the economic development and promoters of Croatian products, Buljevic said.
