Deputy PM talks lack of quorum in parliament

Deputy Prime Minister and Bridge party chief Bozo Petrov on Monday commented on lack of quorum in parliament, saying that "the last time it happened, it was the result of pure irresponsibility of individuals who cannot understand that they are receiving decent salaries of 16,000 or 17,000 kuna" to appear maybe once a week for voting and still they were a no show.

"Honestly, to me this is a disgrace," Petrov said, adding that an initiative would be launched this summer under which MPs who fail to show up for work would receive "a minimum wage at the most."

Petrov said that in his opinion, some MPs were not showing up in parliament in order to boycott certain laws, such as the one on abolishing the office of the former president and the one on reducing financing to political parties. "We will not give up on these things, and this is our condition to stay in this government," Petrov said.

Asked what in his opinion was the problem -- the behaviour of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) or that of smaller parties in the ruling Patriotic Coalition, Petrov declined to comment on political relations. "Ask me in three or four months who put forward more proposals and initiatives, who is better, but I am tired of talking about my relations with others. I am only interested in results and in getting the job done," Petrov said.
