DSHV's activities difficult due to lack of cooperation between Serbia, Croatia

The president of the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina (DSHV), Tomislav Zigmanov, on Tuesday announced his party's participation in the general election in Serbia, stressing that the fact that Croatia-Serbia cooperation was currently on hold was an aggravating circumstance for the DSHV.

"There has been no institutionalised dialogue between Serbia and Croatia lately, the two countries are communicating via media, they are presenting opposite positions and these kind of relations only bring tension and big misunderstandings," Zigmanov told a news conference in Subotica at the start of the DSHV election campaign.

He said he wanted to believe that this situation was partly the result of the election campaign in Serbia, but added that it was possible that Vojislav Seselj's acquittal was also hampering the two countries' relations.

"The acquittal created an issue in the two countries' relations, as it had been interpreted in diametrically opposite ways," Zigmanov said.

He added that the DSHV was running in the Serbian general election in a coalition led by the Democratic Party, which is known for its advocacy of Serbia's EU path and the protection of minority policies.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has called the general election for 24 April.
