Enough signatures collected to dissolve parliament

The initiative of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to dissolve the national parliament was signed on Friday also by five representatives of ethnic minorities and Reformist Radimir Cacic, and according to unofficial sources the collected signatures will be submitted to parliament later today together with the signatures of 12 Bridge MPs, which will be enough votes to dissolve parliament.

The dissolution of parliament was also requested by Human Shield party president Ivan Vilibor Sincic. With the signatures collected on Friday and the announcement by two deputies of the Hrid party that they would submit their own request for the self-dissolution of parliament, the number of deputies supporting such a move has now reached 84.

According to unofficial information, the Opposition and the Bridge party will submit a joint proposal requesting that parliament be dissolved on 15 July, which would postpone snap elections for this fall.

A parliamentary debate on gender equality is under way and SDP MP Gordana Sobol said SDP deputies would not take part in any debates before the dissolution of parliament.

"We believe it is pointless to pretend that everything is normal in this country," Sobol said.

Speaker Zeljko Reiner responded that parliament must do its job, regardless of the fact that the government had been toppled.
