German MEP Brok supports HDZ in election campaign

A German member of the European Parliament, Elmar Brok of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), arrived in Sibenik on Friday to join a pre-election rally of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and give his support to this strongest Opposition party in Croatia during its campaigning, according to a press release issued by the HDZ.

Brok, who chairs the EP Foreign Affairs Committee, was quoted as saying that he had heard from Chancellor Angela Merkel that she had received HDZ leader Tomislav Karamarko in Berlin recently and that she was satisfied with his visit.

"We consider Croatia as an important European country that can help resolve problems inside the European Union," Brok was quoted as saying.

Commenting on how the current Croatian government is tackling the refugee crisis, the German politician said he would like "Croatia to be more cooperative with its neighbours in dealing with the refugee crisis."
