Goods exports in Q1 up 3.9 pct, imports 4 pct

Croatia's exports of goods in the first quarter of 2016 went up 3.9 percent on the year, reaching HRK 20.5 billion, while imports went up 4% to HRK 34.1 billion, the national statistical office said on Wednesday.

The foreign trade deficit in Q1 2016 was HRK 13.5 billion, up HRK 530 million on the year. The export-import ratio was 60.3%.

The biggest market for Croatian products was the European Union, where Croatia exported HRK 13.86 billion worth of goods, 3.1% more than in Q1 2015, while imports went up 6.5% to HRK 27.8 billion.

Exports to Central European Free Trade Agreement member states in Q1 2016 amounted to HRK 3.23 billion, down 3.4% on the year, while imports jumped 25% to HRK 1.9 billion.

Broken down by country, Croatia's main trade partners were Germany, Italy and Slovenia. Croatia exported HRK 2.67 billion worth of goods to Germany in Q1 2016, up 12% on the year, while importing HRK 5.6 billion (+7.2%). Croatia exported HRK 2.85 billion worth of goods to Italy, up 10% on the year, while importing HRK 4.6 billion (-0.01%). Croatia exported HRK 2.6 billion worth of goods to Slovenia, up 8% on the year, while importing HRK 3.7 billion (+6.6%).

Expressed in euros, Croatian exports in Q1 2016 totalled 2.7 billion, up 4.5% on the year, while imports increased 4.7% to 4.5 billion. The foreign trade deficit was EUR 1.8 billion.
