Gov't to convene on Friday

The government will convene on Friday, government officials confirmed to Hina on Wednesday.

The government led by Tihomir Oreskovic has usually held sessions on Wednesdays, but the session that was to have taken place today was postponed because the parliament's Conflict of Interest Commission is in session, government officials said.

The Commission is deciding if First Deputy PM and HDZ party chief Tomislav Karamarko was in a conflict of interest over a business relationship between his wife and his friend Josip Petrovic, a lobbyist for the Hungarian oil company MOL.

On Thursday, the parliament is expected to discuss a motion by 42 deputies of the HDZ-led Patriotic Coalition for a vote of no confidence in Oreskovic, which is why the government will convene on Friday, most probably at 11 am, sources in the government said.

If the parliament votes no confidence in Oreskovic on Thursday, he and his government will tender their resignations and continue serving as a caretaker government until a new government is appointed.
